The Journal of Emily - A Turn of Events

The Journal of Emily

A Second Year Ravenclaw

Gilderoy Lockhart started a dueling club here at Hogwarts. I of course attended the first meeting and let me tell you, it was… interesting. It started off with Professor Lockart teaching us how to properly duel and then he demonstrated with Professor Snape. It was really exciting to see my favorite and least favorite teachers dueling; they must have been really committed to showing how to duel properly, Snape actually looked as if he wanted to hurt Professor Lockhart! Anyway, we all partnered up to practice and I had hoped that Hermione would be my partner, but she was paired up with a Slytherin girl. I got partnered with a Hufflepuff whose name escapes my mind. All was going good until Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy started dueling, one thing led to another and there was a snake on the ground hissing at people. Before either of the professors could come to the rescue, there was a soft hiss, coming from Harry. From my extracurricular studies, I recognized this unfamiliar tongue immediately as parseltongue, the language of snakes, by the hissing nature of the language. The way it sounds is threatening no matter if the person speaking it is saying the happiest thing in the world.

Now, I have this theory that the ghost of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named has come over Harry Potter and is trying to destroy him from the inside-out, but I really can’t be certain and, to many, this would seem an outlandish theory.

Things are starting to escalate here at Hogwarts, if that wasn’t already obvious. Two muggle-born students have been attacked in the same way that Mrs. Norris was attacked. I have heard talk that they have been petrified somehow. I worry that this “thing” can’t be stopped, or even found, and that Hogwarts will close, but for once, I don’t think this has anything to do specifically with Harry Potter. I think this thing is some sort of way to show the muggle-born students where their “place” is, perhaps by the Malfoy family, or some family like them. I can’t understand why anyone would want to attack innocent children, I’ll admit Colin Creevey did seem a bit annoying, but nobody deserves what either of them got. I hope that Madame Pompfrey can cure them, I don’t think I’ve read anything about this sort of thing happening at Hogwarts.

Because of these recent events, the way the school works now is very strict. Nobody can go anywhere without supervision; teachers have to escort students to classes and there’s a more strict curfew. I don’t like seeing Hogwarts like this.
